Sunday came the conclusion of the 29th edition of the Apeldoorn Softball Series.
SaWUSA had an amazing experience at the tournament, finishing in 2nd place. They narrowly lost the Championship Game 12-9 to ABSA, a team of college players from the USA that previously beat them 11-1 in pool play. The team showed awesome improvement throughout the trip under the direction of University of Wisconsin-River Falls head softball coach Amber Dohlman and Asst. Coach Sara Fern.
In additon to playing Softball over the last few days, the team also did some sightseeing around the games. The visited the Royal Palace Het Loo, the Apenhaul Monkey Zoo, and took a trip to Volendam. Volendam is a fishing village on the coast near Amsterdam that is a popular tourist destination and a glimpse into what life was like thousands of years ago. It’s known for its colorful wooden houses and the old fishing boats in its harbor, which is lined with seafood vendors. They also visited a Cheese Farm and Wooden Shoe Factory near Volendam to learn more about Dutch history and culture.
