Frank Rogers Named 2019 SaWUSA Coach of the Year

A huge congratulations to Frank Rogers on being named 2019 SaWUSA Coach of the Year!

Frank led the SaWUSA’s Women’s Lacrosse team to the Gold Medal at the Lisboa Lacrosse Cup this summer. He also previously led SaWUSA Women’s Lacrosse team in 2017 to a 11th place finish in the 2017 Berlin Open.

Rogers has been involved with lacrosse for more than 45 years, and has an extensive background in both the men’s and women’s game. He currently coaches at St. Ambrose University (IA) after spending the last five years at the University of Montevallo (AL). He previously started women’s lacrosse programs at both Brevard College (NC) and Aquinas College (MI).

In addition to his coaching duties, Frank has been instrumental in helping bring athletes from around the USA to our SAWUSA team. He’s been an amazing help to the structure and organization of our tours. He’s helped keep athletes safe and comfortable while traveling abroad, showing a great passion and commitment to the well-being of our STUDENTathletes.

The selection is based on; helpfulness in trip preparation, post-trip survey results from parents and athletes, commitment to team safety, commitment to trip morale, athletic competition success, and a commitment to well-being of our STUDENTathletes.

  • 2015 – Rachelle Matthys, Women’s Basketball, United World Games U19, Silver Medal
  • 2016 – Bob Hutchings, Men’s Basketball, United World Games U19 East, Silver Medal
  • 2017 – Jeremy Otkin, Men’s Basketball, Euro Basketball Cup U14, Gold Medal
  • 2018 – Janet Tyler, Women’s Volleyball, United World Games U17, 25th Place
  • 2019 – Frank Rogers, Women’s Lacrosse, Lisboa Lacrosse Cup, Gold Medal

Honorable Mention

We’d like to mention a few other coaches that were up for the honor. It was a tough decision, so we were only able to pick one. But all of these coaches were very deserving. All three not only did amazing with their teams, but also had good reviews from travelers and embodied exactly what we want from our coaches…

– Tony TJ Morrison led the U16 Boy’s Basketball Team to the Gold Medal at the UWG.
– Tarrik Mabon led the U14 Boy’s Basketball Team to the Silver Medal at the UWG.
– Katie Nelson led the U19 Girl’s Basketball Team to the Silver Medal at the UWG.
